Mrs. Doris Simmons

Mrs. Doris Simmons, age 94 of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025.

Mrs. Simmons was born May 24, 1930, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late William Ira Tilley and the late Lacy Daisy Edwards Tilley.

She was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was supportive of all. Doris was an awesome cook who had an open-door policy to feed her children’s friends and the community. She enjoyed gardening, especially raising tomatoes which she sold to many. She managed a toy store in Marietta and loved to tell everyone she grew up with Richard Petty.

Doris had an unwavering love for her family and will always be remembered for her smile and encouraging words.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Ernest Simmons, Jr.; two sisters, Thelma Washburn and Mamie Crotts; and three brothers, Clifford Tilley, Bill Tilley and Jack Tilley.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Shew and Rob Schuver and Claire and Gene Crouse; a son, David Simmons and Gina Murphy; six grandchildren, Ashley Crouse, Bryan Crouse, Beth Sims, Chandler Simmons, Blair Murphy and Evan Murphy; three great-grandchildren, Addison Crouse, Brylee Crouse and Brody Crouse; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 between the hours of 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Sam Clark Chapel with Rev. Don Rackley officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Memorial Park of Kennesaw with Randy Crouse, Rob Schuver, Randall Sims, Bryan Crouse, Chuck Weaver and Ken Fields serving as pallbearers.

Clark Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service for Mrs. Doris Simmons.
