Walmart drone delivery service set to start in Dallas and Hiram

|

|

Metro Atlanta Walmart locations will begin offering drone delivery service to customers, and among those store is the Dallas and Hiram locations – just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.

Multi-rotor drones will be making brief landings in driveways, yards and on walkways around Paulding County in the coming days as the new delivery service begins today.

Items will be limited in what can be delivered by drone and will include grocery items, last-minute gifts, household goods and over-the-counter medication. The company Wing who is partnering with Walmart for the new service reports an average five-minute or less flight time for many of the packages they are able to deliver by drone.

Size will be a factor for what can be delivered to customers, as the amount of weight and the size of items will make it likely to limit what is available for drone delivery.

Metro Atlanta locations being served by Wing include Woodstock, Conyers, McDonough and Loganville, along with the two in Paulding County.

Wing hopes to expand delivery services to more than 100 additional Walmart locations in 2026. They’ve already been serving the Dallas-Forth Worth area with their drone deliveries.

Drones travel around 150 feet off the ground at average speeds of 60 mph to make deliveries to customers from a central Walmart location. Customers have to use the Wing app to make purchases and have deliveries made, but those deliveries after the order is fulfilled at Walmart in a short time.

Packages are lowered to the ground from a tether system to avoid having to spend additional energy landing at the delivery location.

Get ready to detour around Main Street in Hiram in the coming days as the city prepares for a road closure as men get working on the railroad, all the live long day.

The City of Hiram announced this morning that a road closure is coming up on Tuesday, January 20 as part of a need to make repairs at crossings on Main Street.

The temporary closure will take around 24 hours on Jan. 20, and require a detour for those who utilize the area regularly to get to and from their destinations.

“Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this necessary maintenance is completed to ensure safety,” the city added to their announcement this morning.

Drivers who need to detour around should use Rosedale Road to get back to Angham Road or Arnold Road from Metromont, or stay on SR 92 through downtown Hiram and turn back at Bill Carruth Parkway to Arnold Road.
