Local seniors who made high marks on standardized testing for college admissions were honored by the Paulding County School District for making the highest marks on those tests, and teachers were selected by each school-level winner to be honored as well.

North Paulding High School’s Olivia Hamilton is this year’s District STAR Student, earning the highest SAT score for the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition program, and finished in the Top 10 in her class in grade point average.

Several Elementary School students from campuses around Paulding County went up to Rome ahead of the snowy weekend, and some came back as region champs representing their campuses.

The regional event held in Rome for the Georgia Student Technology Competition organized by Georgia’s RESA organization saw dozens of area schools compete against one another for a chance to move onto the state level on March 14.

The nearly two dozen students included youth from W.C. Abney Elementary School, Connie Dugan Elementary School, Hal Hutchens Elementary School, Sam D. Panter Elementary School, and Shelton Elementary School.

Students from Shelton Elementary took first place in three different categories during the event, along with Dugan Elementary students who took first in two categories, and a Panter Elementary team taking first in a category as well.

Those who won will get to compete on the state level next month in McDonough.
