Groundbreaking held for Veterans Memorial Park in Hiram

City officials are hoping the work to build a memorial to those who have served and sacrificed for the nation will be completed in time for Veteran’s Day this year, and there’s a good chance that will happen.

The public and officials gathered on Monday evening to dump out the ceremonial first shovelful on the project during a groundbreaking ceremony for the new park on Harris Drive.

“This has long been a desire of the Mayor and Council, in order to honor all those who have courageously and selflessly served our country,” city officials posted this morning following the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.

Representatives from the American Legion, VFW, State Representative New, State Representative Gullett, Senator Anavitarte, Incoming District Attorney Lane and Judge Rollins.


Paulding Pages for the Day under the Gold Dome

Local students were put to work for state leaders under the Gold Dome late in the week were showcased by some of Georgia’s top leaders for their service.

A group of students from Crossroads Middle School, North Paulding High School and Mt. Paran Christian School were selected to serve as pages – a role of assistants – within the chambers of the State House and State Senate during Friday’s session in Atlanta.

Both Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte and State Rep. Martin Momtahan sponsored the group of kids from the Dallas and Kennesaw area to participate in the page program, which brings in middle and high school aged students to work with state house and senate members for a day. The students have to apply to serve as pages and only get to do so once per legislative session.

The duo posted their thanks and the above photos to Facebook to cap off the 14th legislative day of the 2026 session.

The program has been providing youth an opportunity to experience life under the Gold Dome during 40-day sessions for five decades, and youth between the age of 12 and 18 can apply through their house or senate member for their district.

Students weren’t the only locals to stop by the State Capitol during the week.

Officials from the Paulding County Elections and Voter Registration office also made a visit to the Gold Dome on Friday, getting a chance to visit with Sen. Anavitarte and State Rep. Momtahan.
