Dallas Women’s Club seeks sponsors for help with clubhouse restoration

The final stages of the restoration project at the Dallas Women’s Club is coming up, and they are seeking some help from local individuals and businesses to help ensure the downtown Dallas multi-use clubhouse is redone just right for future generations to enjoy.

The clubhouse built in 1921 has graced the corner in downtown Dallas for more than a century, and over the past months the project to preserve its historic essence and also modernize facilities within has been underway.

Help is still needed for some of the purchases of materials and work for the project including exterior signage, concrete work, personalized bricks to make, gutter guards, landscaping around the building and removal of an iron bench and repairs to make.

The interior also needs some help: a new refrigerator with a top freezer is sought, some form of reclaimed or hardwood flooring for within, a 6-foot square glass wall display unit they wish to hang, shutters or shades for the windows, seating and repairing or restoring the vintage library desk that has been a staple of the clubhouse for generations.

Organizations or individuals who can lend a hand are asked to please reach out to the Dallas Women’s Club at deblanddwc30@gmail.com and dwc1921project@gmail.com, or call the number on the flyer above.

Get ready to detour around Main Street in Hiram in the coming days as the city prepares for a road closure as men get working on the railroad, all the live long day.

The City of Hiram announced this morning that a road closure is coming up on Tuesday, January 20 as part of a need to make repairs at crossings on Main Street.

The temporary closure will take around 24 hours on Jan. 20, and require a detour for those who utilize the area regularly to get to and from their destinations.

“Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this necessary maintenance is completed to ensure safety,” the city added to their announcement this morning.

Drivers who need to detour around should use Rosedale Road to get back to Angham Road or Arnold Road from Metromont, or stay on SR 92 through downtown Hiram and turn back at Bill Carruth Parkway to Arnold Road.
