Dallas decked out for the holiday season

Downtown Dallas came alive with color and creativity on November 4 as fine arts students from across the Paulding County School District painted storefront windows throughout the historic downtown district.

More than 50 student artists, alongside their dedicated art teachers, spent the day transforming Main Street into a festive canvas of fall and holiday-themed artwork. Each storefront became a reflection of the students’ talent and imagination, helping to spread seasonal cheer while celebrating the strong partnership between the Paulding County School District and the City of Dallas.

“Dallas is more than A town; rather, it is also THEIR hometown, and being able to contribute to its beautification instills a deep sense of pride—not only in their own artwork, but in the community, they live in and love,” says Dr. Katie O. Anderson, Paulding County School District’s Fine Arts Coordinator. “We’re grateful to our art educators, the City of Dallas, and our local businesses for supporting the arts and helping our students feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.”

The annual window-painting event highlights the importance of the arts in education and strengthens the connection between local schools and downtown businesses. Participating merchants eagerly welcomed the students, offering their windows as blank canvases for creative expression and community spirit.

“I’m proud to be a small part and supporter of something that adds so much holiday joy and community spirit to our hometown,” says holiday window painting project sponsor Boyd Monk.

Visitors are encouraged to stroll through Downtown Dallas over the coming weeks to enjoy the students’ artwork on display and to support the many local shops and restaurants participating in the project.

A new set of speed cameras has police officials hoping that drivers will slow down when they are going through the area of Dallas Elementary School, per a release from the city department on Monday.

The new cameras put up around Dallas Elementary went active on Monday and a 30-day advanced notification period for driver’s traveling through the school zone on weekday mornings when school is in session for the start of the 2026-27 school year will be posted ahead of time as a reminder.

Cameras operating who spot drivers going 10+ miles an hour over the speed limit will be sent tickets via a partnership with RedSpeed to install and operate the new cameras.

The department said it wasn’t meant to be a punitive measure against drivers, but hopes instead it’ll act as a preventative for speeders and get them to slow down and protect students and staff during peak hours when traffic is heavier.

“Driving above the posted speed limit in school zones puts pedestrians, especially young children, at a much greater risk of serious harm,” the release from the department noted.

The cameras will be looking for drivers 1 hour before the start of the school day, an hour after the first bell, then an hour before and an hour after dismissal on weekdays.

Signage is also being installed to warn drivers of cameras and encourage them to slow down before reaching the school district.

Those who are caught speeding will be mailed citations after the release promises that a “thorough review” of any citations before they are sent.
