Families who are in need of some help during the Thanksgiving holiday are eligible for having their meal covered thanks to a local contractor.

Crist Jr. Roofing and Construction is accepting applications through November 21 for families in need of help during Thanksgiving this year, providing the opportunity to get a free meal kit that includes all the fixings needed for the holiday – including dessert.

The meal kit will include either a choice of ham or turkey, and will come with all the sides and a cake mix to finish off Thanksgiving dinner.

Crist Jr. Roofing has setup an Eventbrite page for registration, which will be the only place to sign up.

The company additionally requires pickup in person, and those who are accepted will get instructions on Monday, November 24 to get their meal kits.

Only one household per registration is allowed. Priority will be given to families in financial hardship, seniors, and those caring for children or veterans.

The meal kits are available as supplies last.

Check out the Crist Jr. Roofing and Construction Page for more information, or reach out to the company if you’d like to help by making a donation.

Those who might have been wondering who was running with a torch through Paulding County on Tuesday have their answer: it was a pilgrimage.

Volunteers along the route take up time carrying the torch northward as part of the Carrera Antorcha Guadalupana, an annual event that begins on August 30 and will conclude in New York City in December as the light goes northward like the same passage made by many immigrants into the United States.

The journey begins in Mexico’s capital at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and will end before the holidays at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

The annual pilgrimage that began in 1997 covers 9 Mexican and 14 US states before the journey concludes, with many stops along the way as the torch is carried forward. It made its way into Paulding County on Tuesday via Highway 278 from Polk County’s St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church before ending the day in Forest Park at San Felipe De Jesus Catholic Church, passing through four counties in total before their time was complete.

The Carrera Antorcha Guadalupana is meant as a beacon of hope and in honor of immigrants who have made the journey to the United States. Volunteers pass along the torch during each day’s journey further toward New York City as part of the annual trek.

Volunteers spent today continuing the pilgrimage to Atlanta.
